My work was featured in a second trailer for Magic: The Gathering. I used the same characters created for the previous trailer and animated them in pain as they are burning. I'm responsible for the character animations at around the 1:20-1:23 mark. On another note, I hope to start updating my blog more often as I am trying to improve my animation skills and working on some new character rigs and ideas to help me create some new content that I can share with everyone. Look forward to another update within a week.
A lot of stuff has been in the works lately. I am finally able to share at least one of the things I have worked on in the past 6 months. Check out the latest trailer for Magic: The Gathering featuring some of my work. I was responsible for creating animation cycles for Humans, Centaurs, and Satyrs dancing/celebrating as well as the run cycles of the Minotaur army. Well it is GDC time again and I have been busy trying to put together my latest work into a new reel. Finally ready to go and comparing it to my old reel I can see just how far I have come in the past year. It is an exciting time and I'm ready to go, just have to finish packing. Check out my new reel here and if you are going to be at GDC I'll see you there! 2013 reel GDC from Ryan Mohler on Vimeo. Just a quick rough cut of a sequence short I've been working on this week. Most the key poses were done by me a few months ago and I am finally getting around to finishing and polishing off this animation. It is turning out really well and once I finish the animation and then get the environment fleshed out just a bit more for a nice render I think this will be a great piece for my reel. This was done completely in a pose to pose style of animation which really helped me get some more dramatic ninjaesque poses. More to come on this one in the next few weeks as I finish it up. Stay tuned!
Wanted to give another quick update with some of the work I've been doing. These are a small selection of the 70+ in-game animations I have done for Mountainwheel Games upcoming title, Stone Rage. Some of these animations were featured in my previous demo reel, but I am still working hard on the archer character as well as a warrior who will likely soon be making an appearance here. Stay tuned for more updates as we dive deeper into the new year. I am hopeful that there will be a lot of great things coming this year. Model and rig property of Mountainwheel Games.
Here is a small clip of some of the new animation work I have been doing since October on a freelance basis. There is much more to come within the month so stay tuned.
My latest demo reel for October is here! I hope you enjoy taking a peek at some of the work I've finished recently. October 2012 Animation Reel from Ryan Mohler on Vimeo. October has been a busy month and now that it is finally over I'm very excited to announce that within a week I will have an updated demo reel featuring just a small sample of all the hard work I have been doing.
October was my first time entering into the 11 Second Club Competition. It was a great experience from which I learned a ton and I am looking forward to doing it again soon. Voting started today and I be able to share my entry after voting ends on Monday. I am waiting until then to post my new reel so I can showcase my short. Other big updates will come in the form of Stone Rage. To date I have completed nearly 50 animations for the female archer character. You should catch your first glimpse of this awesome character in action early next week. I am really glad to be working with such an awesome team on this project and I look forward to creating many more animations for other characters as development continues. Stay tuned for my update coming next week! Spent a few minutes the other day just playing around with materials and lighting. I came up with this composition as a result. I think it turned out pretty good for just screwing around for fun, and I learned a few new Mental Ray tricks while I was at it.
